TMJ/TMD TREATMENT

Temporomandibular Joint Disorders (TMD/TMJ) relates to pain and dysfunction of the muscles that move the jaw, and the joints which connect it to the skull. The TMJ, a hinge joint, guides jaw movement and allows you to move your mouth in all directions. Quinn PT has certified physical therapists available to treat patients suffering from TMD. Typical Symptoms include:

  • Jaw pain or fatigue
  • Headaches/neck pain or stiffness
  • Difficulty with mouth opening
  • Painful teeth
  • Ringing in your ears

Possible Causes include:

  • Stress/Tension
  • Whiplash (car accident/fall)
  • Poor posture
  • Teeth clenching “bruxism”
  • Nail biting
  • Teeth Alignment “malocclusion”
  • Trauma
  • Displacement
